Slumdog Millionaire

Slamming The Oscars

After watching the Academy Awards and learned that this movie almost won all the major awards of this award giving body and some others, I was intrigued by the title alone.

Slumdog Millionaire? What's with the title? Another colleague confirmed that this is a good watch and worth of having my ass sunk to the couch because of humor and drama. Of course I tried to watch it online but was unsuccessful. So I tried to download a copy from a torrent site and the wait was worthwhile.

This is our destiny.

Slumdog Millionaire is a story of triumph of life. An adaptation of the award winning novel Q&A by Vikas Swarup, it showed the struggles of an orphaned Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) and his brother Salim (Madhur Mittal) from the time their mother died to Jamal's reconciliation with his long time love, Latika (Freida Pinto) while answering questions in a T.V. game show. It showed also that Jamal answered the questions because he experienced it throughout his life. It won almost all the major awards from the Academy and Golden Globe awards.

This movie clearly represented the conditions of a third world country. I personally liked the location of the movie where maybe a million people live on just a hectare of land. It showed how people cope up with poverty. I also liked the flow of the story where it goes back and forth from past to present to show how Jamal got the answers to those questions.

The characters were well played especially the young Jamal who plunged into a pile of shit just to meet his favorite actor and had him sign his autograph. The director really did his homework on this movie as well as all of his crew and cast. Slumdog Millionaire shows that its really not that expensive to create a movie that shows reality at its finest.

Brad Pitt's The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is also my contender for the Oscar's but Slumdog just bit and beat all of them on this well portrayed film.
